TYRUN FITNESS RACE — RULEBOOK
Version 1.0 — valid from August 16, 2025
This rulebook outlines all general rules, safety guidelines, equipment regulations, penalties, and procedures for the TYRUN fitness race. Participation implies knowledge and acceptance of these rules.
⸻
1. Participants & Categories
• Age: minimum 14 years for Scaled & Open, minimum 18 years for Pro.
• Categories: Scaled, Open, and Pro.
• Divisions: Singles Men, Singles Women, Doubles Men, Doubles Women, and Doubles Mixed.
• Start waves: Athletes start in staggered heats according to bib number and call-up.
Athletes must be on time in the call-up zone. Late arrival results in loss of start position with no compensation or rescheduling provided.
⸻
2. Safety & Fair Play
• Always follow the instructions of judges, head judge, crew, and medical staff.
• Unsafe or unsportsmanlike behavior, verbal or physical, will result in disqualification (DSQ) and possible removal from the venue.
• In case of injury or emergency, safety takes priority: leave the track/station immediately when asked by an official.
• Arguing with a judge is not permitted. Disputes can result in DSQ in consultation with the Head Judge and Race Directors.
⸻
3. Course, Track & Timing
• Running track: one-way traffic (follow the arrows). Athletes must keep to the right at all times, except when overtaking — which must be done on the left. The inside lane must remain free for overtaking.
• Boundaries: stay within the designated running and working zones. Failure to respect the official course will result in penalties or DSQ.
• Timing: electronic chip timing. The chip must be worn correctly at all times. If lost, unless proven to be caused by a technical defect, the athlete is fully responsible. This may result in an invalid race and a charge of €15 per chip.
⸻
4. Equipment & Clothing
4.1 Organization-provided equipment
All stations use equipment provided by the organization (ergometers, weights, boxes, sandbags, etc.). Athletes cannot choose their own lane or machine; a judge or volunteer assigns these. Equipment may not be moved or adjusted. On Concept2 machines, the seat, damper, and foot straps may be adjusted freely.
4.2 Allowed items
• Sports clothing & (indoor) sports shoes.
• Wrist or knee sleeves, sports tape (not as a performance aid), sweatbands.
• Gloves without additional grip mechanisms (no hooks/straps), for protection only.
4.3 Forbidden items (TYRUN-specific)
TYRUN follows a strict “no gadgets” policy to ensure fair competition.
• Weightlifting belt (all types) — forbidden.
• Straps, hooks, grips, or similar aids — forbidden.
• Headphones/earbuds — forbidden for safety reasons. They may fall out or come loose during exertion (especially in the sandbag carry) and pose a risk.
• Mobile phones, cameras/action cams — forbidden during the race, due to the risk of dropping and endangering other athletes.
4.4 Hydration & nutrition
• No outside assistance: athletes may not accept drinks or food from spectators or coaches.
• Hydration is provided by the organization at refill stations in the transition zone or along the track.
• No personal drinks/water allowed on the competition floor.
• The organization provides chalk at stations where needed (kettlebell swings & lunges).
⸻
5. Outside Assistance
All forms of outside assistance are prohibited, except by officials (judges, crew, or medical team).
This includes:
• carrying, handing over, or moving equipment;
• pushing or pulling the athlete;
• pacing or shadow running;
• pointing out faster routes or shortcuts;
• massages or physical support during the race.
Spectators and supporters may cheer, as long as this does not hinder safety or the course.
⸻
6. Stations — General Rules
• Follow the queue lines and wait for assignment to a free lane/machine.
• The judge gives the start signal (“Go”) and counts valid reps/distance. A no-rep is clearly called out and must be repeated.
• Resting is allowed, but an uninterrupted rest period may never exceed 10 minutes. Exceeding this limit leads to automatic DSQ.
• Equipment must remain within the designated station zone.
• Equipment must always be placed down in a controlled and safe manner. Throwing or dropping equipment results in a 10-rep penalty.
⸻
7. Penalties, No-Reps & Sanctions
No-reps
• A no-rep must immediately be repeated until the exercise is correctly and fully completed.
• A station is only considered finished once all valid reps are completed.
Course errors
• Missing a station → 25-minute time penalty per station.
• Missing a running lap → 15-minute time penalty per lap.
Outside assistance
• Accepting objects, food/drinks, pacing, etc. → DSQ (after 1 warning).
Forbidden equipment
• Use of belts, straps, grips, headphones, etc. → DSQ (after 1 warning).
Unsportsmanlike conduct
• Swearing, hindering, threatening, or creating dangerous situations → Immediate DSQ.
⸻
8. Protests & Appeals
• Athletes may file a protest within 60 minutes after finishing at the registration desk.
• The protest must describe the incident (heat, time, location, judge). Video from official cameras may be reviewed; public video is not binding.
• Decision by Head Judge in consultation with Race Director = final and binding.
⸻
9. Medical & Doping
• The organization may stop athletes with medical risks.
• Doping (incl. performance-enhancing substances on banned lists) is strictly forbidden.
• The organization may conduct pre- or post-race tests. Refusal = DSQ and possible suspension from future editions.
⸻
10. Venue & Logistics
• No bag drop provided. Lockers are available for athletes and spectators to rent.
• Call-up: report at least 15 minutes before your heat in the warm-up/call-up zone.
• Warm-up: respect equipment/areas; personal warm-up gear must be taken back afterwards.
⸻
11. TYRUN-Specific Choices vs. Other Races
• No gadgets: belts/straps/grips are forbidden, even if allowed in other events.
• No outside assistance: no food/drinks/objects from spectators or coaches.
• Hydration: only via organization-provided refill stations.
• Chalk: only provided by the organization, not personal.
⸻
12. Pre-Race Changes
• In case of force majeure, one or more athletes may be substituted. The organization must be informed in time via contact@tyrun.be, so that names can be correctly updated in the official tracking system. → If this is not done, and the athlete is not correctly registered in the system, the race cannot proceed for that team/athlete.
• Changes close 24 hours before the race.
⸻
13. Refunds
• Once registered, no refunds are possible under any circumstances.
• Substitution is allowed as described in section 12.
⸻
14. Identity Check at Registration
• At the registration desk, the identity of every athlete will be verified. A valid ID card is mandatory.
⸻
15. Amendments
• The organization reserves the right to update this rulebook.
• The most recently published version on the event page is binding.
• Changes will be explained during the athlete briefing.
